I am creating this blog because as belly dancers we need a way to connect with each other and stay in touch with our artistic profession. Sometimes it may feel like we are on our own. Our families are supportive, but they don't really understand. They can't really feel how we feel about it. The glitz the Glam the obsession. How every time we hear a song We are choreographing in our head and everything around us stops. On our way to work in the morning we are not thinking about what we have to do when we get to the desk. We are seeing ourselves on stage in a new costume! And the audience applauding for us.with the lights in our eyes, and we're trying not to spin off the stage! It's like being transported into a different world. While we may feel like we are alone, on our own bellydance island, it is great to know that there are more of us out there! Not in our small Podunk town, but maybe a few miles away in the next town over, there is another girl stranded on her own bellydance island! Wondering where the next belly dancer is. I am happy to illuminate that our bellydance community is everywhere!

Uncertain times in shimmylandIt's a new world right now. Restaurants have closed down, parties, weddings, festivals cancelled. The bellydance world is rough right now. Our way of life is in the public eye. But we must shimmy on. We are lucky enough to live in an electronic age. We can keep ourselves focused and connected by through the magic of the internet. So many amazing things to do such as daily bellydance drills, watching new makeup tutorials, following online bellydance classes and catching shows online. I was thrilled to be invited to an online Hafla. Even while we are fully invested in social distancing, the bellydance community keeps closely knit. So even though we are stuck in our houses, we are still going to get all dolled up, throw on our rhinestones, and put on an amazing show!
